Talus Helps Wounded Vets Return to the Slope

Montana Company Sponsors Wounded Warrior Ski Event at Whitefish Mountain Resort

Missoula, Montana – January 20, 2009 -- Talus Outdoor Technologies, LLC, maker of the revolutionary ColdAvenger Face Mask, is proud to announce its support of the Wounded Warriors Ski Whitefish Event February 4-11, 2009 at Whitefish Mountain Resort in Whitefish, Montana. The event is a program offered by Wounded Warrior Project (WWP), a non-profit organization whose mission is to honor and empower wounded warriors. Adapted Instructors at Ski School at the Whitefish Mountain Resort will work with six wounded service men and women to help them overcome their injuries and experience the freedom of skiing.

Talus Outdoor Tech board member and former US Surgeon General Dr. Richard Carmona is a veteran himself, earning the Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts during his service in the US Army Special Forces in Vietnam, so he understands the physical and emotional scars that come from war. To show his appreciation for their service, Dr. Carmona is expressing his thanks in personal letters to each of the veterans.

“The men and women of our armed forces have given up so much in service to their country,” says Dr. Carmona. “Talus is thrilled to be part of an event that shows our deep gratitude for their sacrifice, and that can help them recover from their wounds in any small way.”

In addition to financial support of the event, Talus will outfit each of the veterans with a Talus ColdAvenger face mask to help them Stay Out Longer on the slopes. In simple terms, the breakthrough technology of the ColdAvenger mask warms inhaled air by 40-60o F and insulates the face and neck with warm, wind-proof fleece. The mask also adds moisture to the air, which helps protect the lungs from the damaging effects of extreme cold.

Along with Talus, the community of Whitefish has come together to help with the event. Whitefish Mountain Resort is sponsoring tickets, lessons and rentals. The Warriors will be staying at Grouse Mountain Lodge, which is covering their breakfasts and lodging as well as hosting a Welcoming Party on the 5th and a dinner at Café Kandahar on Feb 8th. There will be a Farewell Dinner on the 10th at the VFW Montana Lion Mountain Post 276, in addition to many other meals and get-togethers sponsored by local businesses and individuals throughout the week. The public is encouraged to attend some of these events, and tickets are available. The Warriors will also receive gift baskets full of goodies and certificates for massages, spa treatments, etc. put together through generous donations from the community.
